Connection

" What the heart remembers most are the moments shared"

Hi friend!

CONNECTION is the cornerstone of our human experience. We have an innate desire to bond with others, especially those who understand our challenges. It’s what provides meaning and purpose to our lives, and its absence can lead to increased suffering.

I define CONNECTION as the energetic bond that forms when individuals feel truly seen, heard, and valued. It’s a space where giving and receiving occurs without judgment, and where we find nourishment and strength in our relationships. Strong social CONNECTIONS have been linked to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety. They provide a sense of belonging, support, and validation.

Human CONNECTION is the sense of closeness and belongingness a person can experience when having supportive relationships with those around them. Human CONNECTION can be a chat over coffee with a friend, a hug from a partner after a long day, or a hike in the woods with a family member.

CONNECTING with someone doesn’t have to always include words, either. Time spent in relative closeness and experience can also be a bonding experience.

Why is CONNECTION so important to a fulfilling life?

  1. Mental Health: Social isolation can contribute to mental health problems. Having strong CONNECTIONS can help buffer against stress and promote overall mental well-being.

  2. Physical Health: Social CONNECTION has been associated with better physical health outcomes, including lower blood pressure, stronger immune systems, and even longer lifespans.

  3. Purpose and Meaning: Relationships give our lives meaning and purpose. They provide a sense of belonging and contribute to our overall satisfaction.

  4. Personal Growth: CONNECTING with others can help us learn, grow, and develop new perspectives. It can also provide opportunities for personal development and self-reflection.

  5. Increased fulfillment- When we RECONNECT with friends, whether that’s through a quick phone call or on a nature hike, we can go through a multitude of emotions. We’re either laughing, crying, or venting. When we express these emotions, our brains release dopamine and endorphins — the “feel good” neurotransmitters responsible for happiness and mood.

Tips for connecting with others

  1. Volunteer your time: Giving back to your community can be a rewarding way to meet new people and make a difference.

  2. Join a group: Whether it's a book club, hiking group, or other local organization, joining a group can provide opportunities for regular social interaction.

  3. Find a shared interest: Engaging in activities you enjoy can help you CONNECT with like-minded people.

  4. Be an active listener: Show genuine interest in others by listening attentively, asking questions, and avoiding distractions.

  5. Follow through: Be reliable and avoid canceling plans repeatedly.

  6. Embrace physical touch: A friendly hug or handshake can go a long way in building CONNECTIONS. Remember to respect others' boundaries and comfort levels.

Additional ways to cultivate Connection

  • Engage in face-to-face interactions, such as group activities or one-on-one conversations

  • Practice vulnerability and authenticity in relationships

  • Foster a sense of community through shared interests or values

  • Prioritize quality over quantity in relationships

  • Make time for regular check-ins and meaningful exchanges with others

Remember that not everyone has to CONNECT socially in the same way. If you’re more introverted, hanging out with a group of people may not be your thing. Try to find a way to CONNECT that fits you and your unique lifestyle.

In essence, CONNECTION is a fundamental human need that is essential for a fulfilling and meaningful life. It enriches our experiences, provides support, and contributes to our overall well-being.

We cannot heal on our own. WE need each other. CONNECTION is the fundamental key and is the opposite of addiction.

Let’s dig deeper and CONNECT

XO Jenna
